The AART Playgroup, is an informal monthly play reading workshop formerly held every third Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the San Diego Chinese
Historical Museum in downtown.

Sept. 18 -- Woman from the Other
Side of the World by Linda Faigao-Hall
A Filipina
transplant in New York is haunted by her past. We are
producing this play in April, so the reading is an excellent
opportunity to become more familiar with this moving script.
Oct. 16--Cowboy
vs. Samurai by Michael Golamco
In this re-telling of CYRANO DE BERGERAC, one man must choose
between the "Asian American" and the "American" within himself in a
pursuit of love. A no-holds-barred romantic comedy set in rural
Wyoming.
Nov. 20--Eyes of the Heart by Catherine Filloux
After witnessing the atrocities collectively known as the “killing
fields” in the chaos of Cambodia in the 70’s,
a 50 year old
Cambodian woman suffers from psychosomatic
blindness as she adjusts to life in the United States.
Jan. 15--Botocan by Thelma Virata De Castro
Based on the
memoirs of the playwright’s mother, the play tells the story of a
young woman who must choose between serving her family and seeking
vengeance for a hidden crime during the Japanese Occupation of the
Philippines in World War II.
April 16--Tibet Through the

SHADES OF PURPLE
During a bittersweet visit home, a young woman probes the
authenticity of her relationships with family and friends.

Mia--Twenty-something attractive half Chinese, half Caucasian,
intelligent woman
Gino--Twenty-something attractive half Italian, half Caucasian,
intelligent man
Dad--Middle aged Chinese man
Grandma--60-something Italian woman
Gina--Twenty-something woman, Gino's girlfriend
Tom--Twenty-something man, Mia's brother
PAALAM
A young Filipina American clashes with her mother and stepdad before
being shipped overseas to take care of her Lola (grandmother) in the
Philippines.

Mars (Marissa)--18, U.S. born
Tessie--Marissa's mother, 40's.
Lola Tin Tin--Grandmother of Marissa, 60's to 70's
Boy--Tessie's brother. A few years younger than Tessie.
Romy--Tessie's brother. A few years younger than Boy.
Lisette--Marissa's friend. 18, U.S. born.
Edgar--Lola Tin Tin's caretaker. Late 20's, early 30's.
Efren--Marissa's step-dad. 40's to 50's
